Farewell to a Nice Lady (February 1939-12/31/08)

Farewell to PJ, my Step-Mom. She was a good wife, took great care of my Pop and was a hard worker looking forward to a relaxing retirement. The retirement happened, but she was never able to relax and enjoy, to travel or to have many adventures in quite a long time. She was with my Dad for about 10 years. They left Denver for Spokane to retire and enjoy life about six years ago. Finally. It wasn't to be. My Pop became ill and she has taken care of him ever since. He has a form of Alzheimer's and diabetes, and had to be placed in an Adult Foster Home a few months ago. They missed each other a lot, but she drove to see him every day until the end.

Her hard work ended this afternoon at about 2:30 p.m.

She was a very private lady, and truly we know very little about her. She "might" have two sons but they were estranged, and that's all we know. No real friends to speak of besides a few nice neighbors at their "new" home. I don't know why the doctors didn't figure out how gravely ill she was during her last hospitalization, but they didn't. It's likely nothing could have been done anyway.

Very sad. Here's to you PJ, a very hard year over, your work is done, and I hope you have peace and were welcomed into heaven where you must have plenty of loved ones. You were cared for by our family and we so appreciate all of the loving care you gave to our Father. We can't tell him quite yet, he wouldn't understand. Soon.

If there is someone out there you love or have loved but have lost touch with, or a friend you haven't been in touch with, please reach out and do it. We don't know of any for PJ. There will be no services.

Thanks to my brother and sister-in-law for doing the unthinkable, seeing the unseeable, and bearing the unbearable, for your hard work and devotion. Not many people will have to see or do the things you have lived through this year.

May next year bring you blessings beyond measure.

Love,
