Woo Hoo!! (-or- Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder)!

I know, I know these pictures may look scary to you, but they're beautiful! Want to know why??? I finally cleaned out my studio! This has been a LONG unending (need I say forever?) saga!  Hello, my name is Sheila and I have had a problem!

This studio is huge and even has an additional storage area with a sink as part of it, which I didn't get pics of yet.  It has been largely unused.  Then why (you may ask) do I have art supplies tucked upstairs in my master closet and a cabinet in my kitchen?  And why have I made my kitchen counter tops a little less shiny?  (You know how it happens... spots of mediums, gesso, paint, solder, acid, more paint).

Well because my "studio" has been stuffed!  Floor to ceiling, wall to wall,

stacked a mile high full of "stuff" I wanted to save or couldn't part with.  You literally couldn't stand, sit or turn around in here)! Ugh.  The shame of it all!  There has been reason after reason, excuse after excuse and they all seemed somewhat reasonable at the time.

Over the past few years, I've had Joy help me a few times, the DH help me once, flew a niece out here once to "get 'er done" but there was so MUCH junk so many treasures... it was never really close to being done. (I had spaces at some antiques malls years ago, and still had some "really good stuff!)."  In the interest of full disclosure, in the past few years, I've had people take more than a few pick up loads of "cool things" out of here for themselves!

The shoulder surgery is healed and I have been feeling suffocated!  There are so many projects I've wanted to do, but it was always such a hassle doing things upstairs in the kitchen and dining room with messes encroaching on our "real" day to day life.

I know I have a lot of decorating to do!  I've been planning for a long time, but I'm going to let my thoughts perk a little longer before I start that.

Right now I'm basking in the empty spaces.  I've actually gone downstairs a few times, turned on the light, walked around down there, taken a deep breath to see if it is real, and then happily gone back upstairs again.

I even insisted on having my Mom struggle with her walker through her hallway to come in and take a look!  She is happy for me too!  There is a lot of furniture to paint, lots of surface to cover, lots of arranging and organizing and I'm quite content with that.

You know I'm very picky about decorating my home and keeping things pretty, so it took a lot of inner "umph" to share this with you.  And there (as they say), you have it!

Smiling inside and out,

  1. Proud of you for taking the plunge, digging in and getting it done! Miss Betty was here yesterday helping me 'dig out' of my guest room. A few after she left a text message from a dear friend told that she may be coming this way in the next couple of weeks! Great to have our spaces clean and ready for whatever, isn't it? And so glad to hear that your shoulder surgery has healed.

  3. Well, that's another way to think about it! Good point. BUT, I don't have a beautiful store, or as much talent as you do. I really admire you, Anne.

    Warm Hugs,
    Sheila
